MG Motor Australia Marketing Director Dimitri Andreatidis said the Black Edition was developed directly in response to customer demand for a more distinctive-looking ute. The brand has identified that today's ute buyers want more than capability alone, with comfort, technology and styling now playing a much larger role in the segment than they once did.

The Black Edition's signature feature is its exclusive darkened treatment, applied across the grille, MG badging front and rear, wheel caps and side trim, finished with a stamped tailgate design unique to this variant. Inside, the cabin carries the same theme through with a black headliner and pillars, giving the interior a more premium, cohesive look than the standard range.

It is a genuine styling departure for the MGU9, designed to give the ute a sharper, more contemporary stance while retaining the everyday practicality buyers expect from the model.

Underneath the styling changes, the Black Edition remains a proper working ute. It is powered by MG's 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine producing 160kW and 520Nm, paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and a three-lock four-wheel drive system, including front differential lock, rear differential lock and a centre-lock BorgWarner intelligent transfer case, for genuine off-road ability and grip when needed.

Towing capacity stands at 3,500kg braked, supported by MG's locally developed independent multi-link rear suspension, a genuine point of difference against several rivals in this segment that still run a leaf-sprung rear end. The Black Edition also introduces Towing Cruise Control, a new feature added directly in response to customer feedback to give drivers more confidence and convenience when towing trailers, boats or caravans.

As a light commercial vehicle, the MGU9 Black Edition's warranty terms differ depending on whether it is registered for personal or commercial use, so it is worth understanding both before you buy.

For personal use, the MGU9 comes with a 5-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty as standard, which can be extended to 7 years or 200,000km through service activation, meaning the vehicle is serviced exclusively within the MG dealer network from new.

For commercial use, including ABN-registered and business purchases, the warranty is 5 years or 160,000km, whichever comes first, and is not eligible for the same extension. Buyers planning to register the MGU9 for business use should factor this shorter commercial term into their ownership costs.
