The MG MGS6 EV has been awarded a 5 star ANCAP safety rating, tested under ANCAP's 2023 to 2025 criteria and published in July 2026.

The medium electric SUV posted a standout 92% score for Adult Occupant Protection, backed by autonomous emergency braking that performed well across car, pedestrian, cyclist and motorcyclist scenarios.

The rating applies to all variants built from December 2025 and sold in Australia from June 2026.

Yes. The MGS6 EV earned ANCAP's maximum 5 star rating, with strong results across all four assessment pillars and full marks in several individual crash tests, including side impact and far side impact for the driver. Its weaker area is pedestrian head protection in a direct impact, which scored MARGINAL to POOR on the stiffer parts of the bonnet and windscreen, though the vehicle's forward-facing AEB system for pedestrians and cyclists scored GOOD across nearly every test scenario, which reduces the likelihood of that impact occurring in the first place.

How did the MGS6 EV perform on adult occupant protection?

This is the standout result. The MGS6 EV scored GOOD or full points in the side impact, oblique pole and far side impact tests, with the passenger compartment remaining stable throughout the frontal offset test.

Chest protection for the driver was assessed as ADEQUATE rather than GOOD in both the frontal offset and oblique pole tests, a common trade-off at this end of the scoring range, but every other critical body region scored GOOD or better.

The car also demonstrated that its doors would remain functional for the required period if submerged, though window opening in that scenario was not demonstrated.

How did the MGS6 EV perform on child occupant protection?

Both the 6 year old and 10 year old test dummies recorded GOOD protection and full points in the frontal offset and side impact tests. Lower ISOFIX anchorages and top tether points are fitted across all rear seating positions, and most child restraints available in Australia and New Zealand could be installed without issue, though one booster seat could not be correctly fitted in the centre rear position.

Child presence detection, which alerts a driver to a child left in the vehicle, is not available on the MGS6 EV.

Autonomous emergency braking for car-to-car scenarios scored GOOD across stationary, moving, braking and head-on target scenarios. Lane keep assist was rated ADEQUATE while the more critical emergency lane keeping function scored GOOD. Driver monitoring picked up fatigue reliably but its distraction detection did not meet ANCAP's requirements and was not credited, and the vehicle does not offer an advanced automatic emergency call (eCall) system.
