2026 Skoda Octavia ANCAP Safety Rating
The updated Skoda Octavia has been awarded a 5 star ANCAP safety rating, tested under ANCAP's 2023 to 2025 criteria and published in May 2026, drawing on testing conducted in 2019, 2022 and 2025. The medium car scored 85% for Adult Occupant Protection, its highest pillar result, though a recurring chest protection result across several frontal tests and a notably large front-structure compatibility penalty are worth understanding before you buy. The rating applies to vehicles built from July 2025 onwards.
Is the Skoda Octavia safe?
Yes, the Octavia holds ANCAP's maximum 5 star rating, with full marks in the side impact, far side impact and rescue and extrication tests. Its clearest limitation is driver monitoring, an indirect system that detects drowsiness only, with no distraction detection at all and no direct system offered even as an option. Chest protection also came back MARGINAL or ADEQUATE rather than GOOD across several separate frontal tests, a consistent pattern rather than an isolated result.

A note on rating applicability: this rating is based on testing conducted across three separate years, 2019, 2022 and 2025, and applies to vehicles built from July 2025 onwards. A separate, earlier rating applies to Octavias built before that date. Always check the VIN and build date against ANCAP's published applicability before quoting this rating for a specific vehicle.
How did the Octavia perform on adult occupant protection?
Chest protection is the recurring theme in this pillar. The driver's chest was MARGINAL in both the frontal offset and oblique pole tests, and ADEQUATE in the full width frontal test, where the rear passenger's chest was also MARGINAL. Every other critical body region scored GOOD, and the side impact and far side impact tests both scored full marks. The Octavia's front structure presented a moderate compatibility risk to occupants of an oncoming vehicle, drawing a 5.57 point penalty out of a possible 8, a notably larger deduction than most vehicles achieve in this test. Rescue and extrication scored full marks, and both doors and windows remained functional after the submergence test.
How did the Octavia perform on child occupant protection?
The 10 year old dummy recorded ADEQUATE chest protection and MARGINAL neck protection in the frontal offset test, and POOR chest protection in the side impact test. The 6 year old dummy scored GOOD throughout both tests. One booster seat could not be correctly installed in the centre rear position.
An indirect child presence detection system is fitted as standard, but it did not meet ANCAP's requirements and was not credited.
How did the Octavia perform on vulnerable road user protection?
Pedestrian head protection followed the pattern seen across most rivals in this class, GOOD or ADEQUATE over most of the bonnet and windscreen, with MARGINAL and POOR results on the stiffer windscreen pillars.
Forward AEB pedestrian, cyclist and motorcyclist detection all scored GOOD. Reverse pedestrian detection was MARGINAL, scoring 0.50 out of 2 points. Cyclist anti-dooring functionality is available but was not fitted to the tested vehicle, so it was not assessed.
How did the Octavia perform on safety assist?
Car-to-car AEB scored full marks across every scenario, and lane support functionality, including the more demanding emergency lane keeping tests, also scored full marks. Head-on AEB performance was ADEQUATE rather than GOOD. The clear weak point in this pillar, and across the whole rating, is driver monitoring. The standard system is indirect, drowsiness detection only, with no distraction warning or intervention offered at all, and no direct monitoring system available even as an option. It scored just 0.25 out of 2 points.
What safety technology comes standard on the Octavia?
Every Octavia variant comes standard with autonomous emergency braking covering cars, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, emergency lane keeping, blind spot monitoring, and a speed assistance system with intelligent speed limiting and speed sign recognition. Automatic emergency call (eCall) is not fitted.
What does this mean for Melbourne and Victorian buyers?
For buyers doing regular highway or long-distance driving across regional Victoria, the Octavia's driver monitoring gap is worth weighing carefully, an indirect, drowsiness-only system with no distraction detection may be preferred by some buyers, however if you require a vehicle with more comprehensive distraction detection, talk to our friendly team to explore suitable options.
